2009/10
Watford Philharmonic Society comprises a large mixed choir with its own orchestra. It performs regularly in the excellent Watford Colosseum, and is currently directed by the renowned Terry Edwards whose musical appointments have included 12 years as Choral Director at Covent Garden. The Phil, celebrating its 75th anniversary in the 2009/10 season, boasts Sir Henry Wood as one of its earliest conductors. Its repertoire covers all the major choral works; concert versions of classical and contemporary opera, and mixed programmes featuring music from the stage and screen. The choir rehearses on Monday evenings from 7.30pm to 9.30 pm and the orchestra on Wednesday evenings from 7.30pm to 9.30 pm, both at the Watford Grammar School for Girls.
The choir welcomes all voices without the need to audition and offers 2 Open Rehearsal evenings to give prospective new members a chance to try us out before joining. To join the orchestra, you will need to be an experienced musician – preferably to Grade 8 level or above. For more information about joining us, and further details about the Society, including our concert programme for the current year, please visit our website at www.watfordphilharmonic.co.uk ; email watfordphilsecretary@tiscali.co.uk or telephone 01494 874507
